Podcasting and Audio/Visual Intern

Position: Podcasting and Audio/Visual Internship
Reports to: Program Manager and Manager of Volunteer Programs.
Status: Internship. Unpaid.
Hours: 12 hours per month on average. 20+ during busy installation periods.
Position Length: September 30th – into 2010, to be arranged.
Interviews: September 2009. Application deadline: September 15th.

The Podcasting and Audio/Visual Intern (PAVI) produces audio documentation (podcasts) of events at the gallery coupled with curatorial interviews related to each exhibition. This will involve development of show content, maintenance of blog website and upload to the TSF podcast feed. The PAVI will develop and improve online content as well as investigate means to make the podcast more accessible to the public. As a secondary area of focus the PAVI implements and manages audio/visual resources for The Soap Factory, ensuring that said resources are maintained and in working order for the purpose of exhibition installation. The PAVI is also required to install said equipment as instructed by members of TSF staff or exhibiting artists. In addition the PAVI must be willing to trouble-shoot technical problems over the course of exhibition, fixing issues when necessary.

Position Responsibilities:
• Podcast: schedule interview/tour times with artists/curators and the gallery director.

• Conduct interviews and edit the podcast content.

• Upload podcast feeds and burn CD versions for in-gallery use.

• Write show notes for the podcast website.

• Put together audio and video set-ups for exhibitions.

• Trouble-shoot the vast array of equipment and make recommendations for purchase of equipment when necessary.

• Attendance during installation periods and artist talks for audio recording purposes.

• Develop and improve the quality of content in the podcast (http://soapcast.libsyn.com).

• Test and identify equipment that does not work during the season.

• Update the existing A/V spreadsheet (catalogue of working equipment).

• Maintain the equipment checkout list and keep track of equipment use. Keep A/V office tidy.

Qualifications:
Education: A background in new media and technology. A bachelors/associate degree is preferred.

Experience/skills/knowledge/ability: Experience with audio editing is required and the candidate must be able to learn about gallery A?V equipment on the job. Experience with data projectors is a bonus. Some working knowledge of html is also preferred.

Software/Hardware (some training provided): Logic Express, iPod audio recorder, Quicktime, Libsyn podcast host, RSS.
